DESCRIPTION:Part of UMBC’s Public Humanities program\, Baltimore Field School 2.0 (BFS) brings UMBC faculty\, graduate students\, and staff together with community partners to collaborate and build sustainable and ethical research and teaching projects. Join Dr. Sarah Fouts to learn about the genesis and future of the BFS\, and the why and how of moving away from extractive research projects in Baltimore City. \nBio:\nSarah Fouts is an Assistant Professor in the Department of American Studies\, an affiliate professor in the Language\, Literacy\, and Culture doctoral program\, an affiliate professor in the Latin American Studies minor\, and director of the Public Humanities Minor program. Fouts’ research interests include political economy\, food studies\, New Orleans\, Honduras\, ethnography\, labor\, and community engagement.

DESCRIPTION:UMBC boasts an active gallery space in the Albin O. Kuhn Library that regularly features thought-provoking and engaging exhibitions of work from its own archives and beyond. Join Dr. Beth Saunders\, Curator and Head of Special Collections & Gallery to learn about the process of organizing exhibitions at UMBC\, UMBC’s rich photography collections\, and get the behind-the-scenes story of their latest curatorial endeavor. \nBio:\nBeth Saunders holds a PhD and MPhil in Art History from The CUNY Graduate Center and a BFA in Studio Art from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Before arriving at UMBC she was Assistant Curator in the Department of Photographs at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York\, and taught Art History courses at Baruch College\, Rhode Island College\, and the Rhode Island School of Design. A specialist in the history of photography\, Beth has published essays in edited volumes and exhibition catalogs and contributed articles and reviews to many publications.

Underneath the freeways\, streets\, and sidewalks of the city run waters that have fed Baltimore since before its beginning. Join Kate Drabinski for this digital story about the water running under our feet\, and what it means to bury and unbury the streams that make Baltimore a city of water. \nBio:\nKate Drabinski is Principal Lecturer in Gender\, Women’s\, and Sexuality Studies and Director of the WILL+ Program. She is also an avid pedestrian and cyclist who likes to peek over the sides of roads and bridges to see what’s down there.
